Why then I do but dream on sovereignty As one who stands upon a promontory And spies the far off shore where he would tread Wishing his foot were equal with his eye He chides the sea that sunders him from thence Saying to have his way he'll laid it dry So do I, so do I, wish the crown (being so far off) So do I, so do I, chide the means (that keeps me from it) So do I, so do I, swear I'll cut the causes off Flattering me with impossibilities I said off with my brother Clarence, dead by the will of man I said off with my brother Edward, dead by the grace of God And off with his wretched children, dead by the cruel hand of fate So do I, so do I, wish the crown (being so far off) So do I, so do I, chide the means (that keeps me from it) So do I, so do I, swear I'll cut the causes off Flattering me with impossibilities But soft -- here come my executioners Will you now dispatch this thing? We come to have the warrant That we may be admitted Where your brother's children live I can smile and murder whilst I smile And wet my cheeks with artificial tears I'll drown more sailors than the mermaid shall I'll slay more gazers than the basilisk I'll deceive more slyly than Ulysses could I'll even add colours to the chameleon Can I do all this an cannot get a crown? Tut -- were it farther off, I'll pluck it down King Richard -- he once had a crown and now he's underground King Richard -- he got himself a spot underneath a parking lot King Richard -- he went to the field and now he's dead King Richard -- knocked him from his horse and they cut him in the head King Richard -- he just had to get rid of those snotty little kids King Richard -- well he put them in the tower now look where he is

Well it's just a lonely birthday Just a lonely birthday But hey, don't worry 'bout me Cause it's just a lonely birthday (well it's been about one outta two) A lonely birthday (isn't anything new 'cept the absence of you) And I just can't help but missing you a bit today And I just won't help but missing you a lot tonight It's the first time in fourteen years That your voice was nowhere to hear And I just can't help it I suppose I'll have to admit, that it's Just a lonely birthday (just how it goes) Just a lonely birthday (a little time to compose) A lonely birthday But hey don't worry bout me It's just a lonely birthday (unravel the bows) Just a lonely birthday (this bouquet is more a thorn than a rose) I suppose that it shows I guess I'm doing ok But I just can't help but missing you a bit today I guess I'm doing alright But I just won't help but missing you a lot tonight It's the first time in fourteen years That your voice was nowhere to hear An I just can't help it Little maudlin I have to admit But it's just a lonely birthday They might think we're dumb and lonely But they're wrong cause our love is strong (repeat) Never never thought it'd be like this

I remember well when we first met The kindness of your smile The bus it down the wrong way went We chatted for awhile The park that day was lush and green A mild September afternoon The prettiest I'd ever seen I taught you a few chords Before we walked you to your door So little time, felt like so much more That even now, with the days so far behind You're always on my mind The pictures that you send I love the way you hold the cup Your fingers and your smile I really want to drink you up Been thirsty for awhile I keep your postcard on my desk A gesture to remind, 'cause I've always had A penchant for the maudlin-esque You're always on my mind And every time I see a pretty flower I think of you And every time I waste away an hour it's with you on my mind And every time I sing a pretty song it is for you And every time I wait a bit too long I hope that you don't mind And every time I feel I know for sure it is for you But every time I'm feeling insecure it's with you on my mind And every time I try to go to sleep I'll think of you And every time I wake up you'll be all that I have on my mind You're on my mind All I can do Is hope that I will someday see you again And every time I wake up you'll be on my mind And I won't find An hour of rest until I've heard back from you And every time I go to sleep I'll think of you It's all I can do

I met a girl one day It was a happy day I spent with Risa I met a girl one day She does bemuse me Her voice is music And now it's every day I think of Risa

about

These eight songs were salvaged from a sprawling catalogue of home recordings I made between 2009 and 2019. All tracks were mixed by me at the time of recording, and were remixed with additional overdubbing in 2020 with the intention of making them releasable while preserving their original 'rustic charm'. Nearly all of the compositions have appeared (in some form) in a play or film. Thanks to Greg, Kay and Kurt for their advice, and to everyone who has supported and/or inspired the creation of these pieces over the years.
